Hello Again!

A little update, work, surf and food shopping!

This website is starting to smell like neglect – and that was not the plan!

It’s been an unintentional couple of weeks since I shared an update of what we have been up to. Mainly because we have really gotten into the swing of things here and dare I say the novelty of living here is starting to wear off and we are in a normal routine. After being here for 6 weeks now, I can safely say Bali was 100% the right choice for us. We love the area we live in, being near the beach and able to surf all the time is amazing and in Bali things just seem to work. Imagine the exact opposite of Caribbean island time. Here, if someone says they are delivering something in 10 minutes, it will absolutely be here in 10 minutes.

The past few weeks have really been a lot of heads in laptops. Our new business launch is now about a month away (fingers crossed) and there are lots of nitty gritty final decisions, final product samples and filling in any gaps we might have missed. Progress has been fast and we are both very eager to go live. Caveat – none of the tech testing has happened yet so that will be a significant hurdle to overcome.

We have fallen into our daily routine of a morning workout or surf, then work for the rest of the day. We’ve been making a conscious effort to keep trying out new food spots and exploring different beaches around the island. We definitely have a habit of sticking to what we know and like and with work ramping up it’s nice to have our go to spots but I’m conscious not to waste the opportunity to explore more of Indonesia.

A very exciting update – or exciting for me at least – we went to a proper supermarket for the first time since being here. There are no supermarkets in the area we live. The closest we have is essentially a big corner shop where everything is very expensive. It’s usually much cheaper to eat at cafes and restaurants but we decided to treat ourselves to breakfast at home for a few days. It was a very hectic 20 minute ride away and it took us a while to figure out which produce was local and not expensive (we realised we spent £4 on a single apple the other week). So stocked up with bananas, papaya, eggs and avocados we now have a semi stocked fridge!

Other than work we have been spending a lot of time at our favourite surf spot – Padang Padang. We have even started to make a couple of friends we regularly see at the same spot. Making some new friends has been our challenge of the week. As much as we like hanging out together, after 6 weeks of only having each other (plus a brief trip with our friend Jack) we need other friends. I’ve joined a girls surf and fitness club that one of my new surf friends organises and Harry is going for a coffee with a girl he’s met – absolutely thrilling, I know.

In other news I have noticed a spot of eczema coming back on my hand and backs of my knees. Slightly weird as I haven’t had any eczema for years – is this too gross to read about?! (you’ll have to let me know). I suspect it is from the water here as I have been eating and drinking very normally / healthily. No Kate I haven’t been having any weird orange drinks or crisps!! So I will look forward to a google translate conversation with one of the pharmacists to get some cream.

This brings my overdue, 2 weeks worth, braindump over.

Still live laugh loving our way around Bali

M xx

I'll let you know when I post something new!
